Virginia Kay Mann Pollard of Fork Union, Virginia was peacefully received into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on June 7, 2026, after a short stay at UVA Hospital in Charlottesville, VA. Ginny was born on June 30, 1942.
She was the daughter and only child of Colonel John William Mann and Lillian May Kiefer Mann.
She is survived by her son William “Little Bill” C. Henderson, lll, her stepsons Jonathan Clary Pollard (Nenita), and Thomas Overton Pollard, her step-grandson Christopher Thomas Pollard, cousins Cathy Lorino, her son, Mark and daughter Melissa, Marilyn Herschbach (Robert), her sons Michael and Thomas, and daughter Beth, Doris Sandker (Frank), her son Michael and daughter Kristin Taylor, goddaughter Margaret McGarry (Chris) and her daughters Jillson, Madelyn, and Bronwen, and by Connie D’Angelo Henderson and her daughter Luciana Cotroneo Congedo (Paolo).
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents Colonel William and Lillian Mann, Captain William C. Henderson, ll, her husband Wendall Holmes Pollard, and her cousin Carole Smith.
Ginny loved life. She loved the Lord and her church. She loved her family and devoted her life to her Little Bill.
She strived to give Little Bill the best quality of life. After a BS from Wellesley, she returned to UVA earning a Master's Degree in Special Education. She saw to it that he was able to do the things he loved including horseback riding, voice lessons, and being part of Fluvanna Community Singers.
Ginny loved her friends and was always delighted to welcome them to her home at any time. Ginny considered her community her life angels especially during her battle with cancer. If the weather was chilly, she would likely be found in one of her favorite cashmere sweaters always serving hospitality on Polish pottery.
Ginny loved her dog Finn and believed one of her talents was training the dogs in her life. She enjoyed the many birds and flowers at her home. She also loved swimming, reading, and horseback riding.
Ginny had many stories to tell from her many life adventures. At age eighteen, she went by ship and traveled through parts of Europe. Later in life, she and little Bill experienced life on a house boat.
Ginny was a proper, genteel lady, but she was also strong. She had an inner strength and determination that kept her going until her final days.
Ginny will be missed by her many special friends and family.
A Memorial and Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00am on June 30, 2026, at Grace Episcopal Church in Bremo Bluff, Virginia followed by a reception. The Rev. Jones will officiate.
She is in the care of Sheridan Funeral Home.
