Worshipful Vernon Lee Crumpler, Jr., 80, laid down his working tools on 18 February 2026. He is proceeded in death by his loving wives, Mary Gilmore Beazley (d. 1973) and Alice Raye Marks (d. 2021), his parents Vernon Lee Sr. and Alice Victoria, and sister Alice Victoria Stevens. He is survived by his sister Veronica Lee Anderson; his children, Beth Owen (Susan), Earl Taylor (Christy), Heather Bates, Vernon Lee III (Michelle), Christopher (Jenny); his grandchildren, Melyssa (Nate), Michelle (Aria), Dustin, Jadelyn, Addie, Jase, James (Krista), Zachary, Emily, Levi, Aiden; 3 great grandchildren, and a huge extended family.
Born in Norfolk, Virginia, in 1945, Lee lived a life defined by service, dedication, and deep love for his family and community.
A graduate of Frederick Military Academy, in Portsmouth, he went on to serve as a Virginia State Trooper, a role he carried out with a commitment to protecting others. Following his years in law enforcement, Lee continued his career in public service with the Virginia Correctional Enterprises, where he served as the Manager of the Tag Shop. His professionalism and steadfast leadership left a lasting impression on colleagues and those he served.
His passion for helping others extended well beyond his professional life. As a member of Goochland County Fire and Rescue and Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad, he gave countless hours to his community. He proudly led the America Division, U.S Naval Sea Cadet Corps, where he mentored young people and helped to shape many future leaders.
As a man of faith, Lee was a member of Gum Springs United Methodist Church, where he found fellowship and purpose. With his wife Raye, he poured into several ministries to help others.
Lee was proud to have grown up in Freemasonry, following in his father’s footsteps. He served in many leadership roles with distinction, including Worshipful Master. As an active member he lived out the principles of integrity, faith, hope, and charity.
Above all else, Lee believed that family was everything. He cherished his large extended family and was known for his unwavering support, kindness, and care for each and every one of them. Whether gathering for holidays, milestones, or everyday moments, family was the center of his life and his greatest joy.
Lee will be remembered as a man of service, faith, and devotion, a protector, mentor, and a loving family man whose legacy will live on in the many lives he touched.
Visitation 28 February 2026, at Norman/Sheridan Funeral Home in Goochland, from 4-6pm, the casket will close at 4:30. Funeral Service 1 March 2026, at Gum Spring United Methodist Church, 3pm. Interment will be 2 March 2026, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk 11am
