Van Carl Stephenson, Jr.

Van Carl Stephenson Jr., age 64, of Norfolk, Virginia, passed away on April 15, 2026. Born in Lynchburg, Virginia, Van had the unique experience of living in several different states as well as abroad, enriching his life with diverse experiences.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Phyllis Stephenson. He is lovingly remembered by his father, Van Stephenson Sr. (Kelly), his sister Carolyn Dusenbury (Brett), and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who cherished him.

Van took great pride in starting his career at a young age with a paving company, where he enjoyed working closely with the crews. He also fondly recalled his time spent working at the Shipyard, moments that brought him joy and reflection.

An avid enthusiast of the simple pleasures, Van loved the place he called home. He found happiness in days spent at the beach, watching sunsets, riding and repairing bicycles, visiting the library, and watching movies. His passions extended to his admiration for Harley Davidson memorabilia and his collection of model cars.

A graveside service to honor Van’s life will be held at The Dillard-Coffey Family Cemetery, 714 Dug Hill Road, Amherst on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.

Van’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, in remembrance of Van's life and love, the family ask that any charitable donations be made to any local mental health organization or charity.
