Shirley Ann Johnson

Shirley Ann Johnson, 91, of Troy, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024. She was born on April 3, 1933, the daughter of the late Charles B. Walker and Ethel (Gibson) Walker.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Herman Johnson. She is survived by her six children, Donna (Jimmy) Loving, Herman Jr. (Kathy), Cindy (Tony) Gibson, Andy (Ellen), Jeffrey (Ginger), Vanessa Johnson, 23 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Shirley was a hard worker, avid gardener, and a lover of all animals, especially her flock of chickens, her household birds, and her many dogs and cats.
On weekends, she would frequently visit local yard sales and go out to eat with her late husband and family. She was well-known in the community for the eggs she sold and the plants she raised. She spent many hours canning and preserving foods. Fried apples, hoe-cake bread, raw apple cake, fruit cake, and the best sweet tea were some of her specialties. She also enjoyed helping parents by watching their children while they were at work. Shirley’s biggest joy was her family. She was very proud of her children, and all of her grandchildren. She also loved and enjoyed her dogs, Buster and Jazz. She will be greatly missed.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Open Door Christian Church, Troy, Virginia. Sheridan Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
