Sharlene Cope

Sharlene Ann Cope, longtime resident of Lake Monticello in Fluvanna County, Virginia left us on July 3, 2024, after a long illness.

She leaves behind her sisters Arlene Cope Salaverria, of Charlotte NC and Roxene Cope Turner, of Richmond, VA. She also leaves behind nine nieces and nephews, and fifteen great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her infant sister Darlene Nan Cope, and sister Geraldine K Smethurst.

Sharlene was born December 16, 1947, to James and LaVerne Cope in Ithaca, New York. She was a nature enthusiast, avid sports fan, and history lover. She was an exceptional gardener and shared her bouquets, bulbs, and plantings with friends and family. She particularly favored plants native to Virginia. A voracious reader, she shared her love of books with her nieces and nephews and was an expert Scrabble player.

Her work life was largely spent at the University of Virginia Hospital, where she worked as a laboratory technician for 45 years, retiring in 2017. She is greatly missed by her family and friends.

Family will receive visitors on July 13, 2024, at 10:00 am in the Fellowship Hall of Grace Episcopal Church, Bremo Bluff VA. Service and Burial to follow visitation. Grace Episcopal Church: 754 Bremo Bluff Road, Bremo Bluff, VA 23022.
