Richard Thomas Rigsby, Sr, known as Tommy Rigsby to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2026, after an extended illness.
He was born on June 21, 1950, as the youngest child of Lloyd C. Rigsby and Lucille (Ladd) Rigsby in Baltimore, MD. Tommy was a man who prided himself on service to his country and to his community. He served in the Army from 1970-1973, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Conflict with a rank of SP5. After he was honorably discharged from the Army, Tommy was a longtime employee at Virginia Harvestore where he was the man that people would ask to speak with when they needed help. Later in life, he worked as a boom truck driver and overall maintenance man for Phil’s Concrete until he retired. Tommy also volunteered as a rescue diver for many years with the Lake Monticello Water Rescue Team. He was passionate about his diving and maintained several different diving certifications that he used to help assist law enforcement with recovery and to help train the newer divers as a Lieutenant on the team.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd C. Rigsby and Lucille (Rigsby) Goad and by his youngest son, Matthew B. Rigsby. He is survived by his oldest son, Richard “Ricky” Rigsby, Jr and his wife Jatanna Rigsby, his brother Lloyd Rigsby and his wife Kelly Rigsby and his two sisters, Louise Talley and Sylvia “Jean” Poore. He is also survived by his nieces: Angela Shifflett and Crystal Rigsby, his nephews: Wayne Rigsby, Travis Rigsby and Adam Rigsby and his granddaughter, Elliot Rigsby.
