Pauline Elizabeth Grandstaff Satterwhite, of Goochland, Virginia, was born July 28, 1932, and departed this life for the infinitely better surroundings of her heavenly home on July 14, 2026. She was the wife of the late Howard E. Satterwhite. They were married 65 years. She is survived by her son, Darvin E. Satterwhite (Flo); grandchildren: John Satterwhite (Kristen); Darcy S. Bonovitch (Aaron); Emily S. Parsons (Ian); great-grandson Joseph L. Bonovitch. She is also survived by her sister, Nina G. Parrish (Bryan) and numerous nieces and nephews. Pauline was predeceased by brothers, Johnie J. Grandstaff and George H. Grandstaff, and by her parents, John and Grace Grandstaff. She was a life-long member of Perkins Baptist Church where she served as Trustee (2010-2020) and held the position of chairwoman of the “Golden Agers” ministry for senior adults for 34 years. After graduating from Goochland High School in 1950, Pauline went to work in Richmond for the D.M.V. as a bookkeeping machine operator in the gasoline tax department. Then, at the end of her working hours, she served as a volunteer from 6 to 11 p.m. through the Red Cross at the Medical College of Virginia. She continued this routine for the next 2 years. Pauline ran rescue runs for 25 years with Fife Rescue Company 4, where she served as company lieutenant for 3 years. For 17 of these years with Fife Rescue, she served as an E.M.T. and also taught advanced medical aid courses. In 1968, Pauline received the Special Recognition Award for her service to the Fife Rescue Squad. She also participated in the Hadensville-Fife Women’s Auxiliary for many years. She was appointed by the Goochland County Circuit Court to the Goochland County Electoral Board where she served for 25 years. Even though she was a dedicated wife and mother, she also found the time for many other pursuits. As a young woman, she was an outstanding softball player (third base) for the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church team. For many years, Pauline was an excellent bowler who received numerous awards for her high scores and team championships. She was an amazing seamstress, creative artist and wonderful cook. For a number of years, she and her friends enjoyed holding an annual craft fair each autumn at her “shop” (Green Acres) in western Goochland. As severe arthritis slowed her down, she developed a passion for detailed coloring and solving word-search books. She was much loved and will be greatly missed by her family, friends and community. The family wishes to express its appreciation for the attention, compassion and love of the Lakewood nurses, CNA’s and staff in the Healthcare Center.
Grave-side services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 10:00am, in the cemetery of Perkins Baptist Church, 3146 Hadensville-Fife Road, Goochland, VA 23063.
