Paul Roger Neal

It is with great sadness that the family shares the passing of Paul Neal from Columbia, Va. Paul was born in Danville, Virginia in 1957 to Juanoka (Eller) Lumpkin.

Paul passed away three days after suffering a medical emergency while behind the wheel of his car, ultimately succumbing to the injuries he sustained. Though Paul’s passing came unexpectedly, those that knew and loved him will cherish shared memories forever.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Teresa Ann Neal, who selflessly expressed her unwavering love, compassion and dedication to Paul by caring for his medical needs of dialysis at home for the last three years.

He is survived by two brothers Rex Neal (Patricia) of Gretna, VA and David Neal. (Carole) of Mineral, VA.

Paul and Teresa shared a blended family of five children, Michael C. Neal. Jason R, Young (Jenn), Michelle D. Greene (Joe), Brittany A. Young-Wright (Paul), and Lucy M. Gore. Together they shared eight grandchildren: Haley, Rachel, Shawn, Garrus, Waylon, Suzanna, and twins Makayla and Star, whom they are very proud of. Paul will be remembered as a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend. He will be deeply missed.

Paul is preceded in death by his mother, Juanoka Eller Lumpkin (Nokie), his father, Harry Lumpkin, an older sister Carol Atlee, and Paul’s twin sisters Janet Neal Davis and Joy Neal Proulex.

If you knew Paul, you knew there was a good chance his car hood was propped open, his head tucked underneath, and his hands busy tinkering with whatever needed fixing. More often than not, you’d find his son Mike right there beside him. Paul had a way of turning an afternoon under the hood of a car into a time of teaching, laughing, helping, and connecting with good friends. Paul loved to figure out how things worked and what it took to fix them, whether he was repairing something mechanical or taking on a project in his home. Those were the memories that seemed so completely normal at the time, but they will be the memories the family will cherish forever.

As a young man, Paul worked alongside his father, Harry, at a local farm (4L Ranch) learning the value of hard work. He eventually began his 35-year career with Luck Stone Corporation in Rockville, Virginia where he worked in the quarry as a loader operator. The work was demanding but Paul took pride in his craftmanship and through the years formed many lasting friendships with his co-workers.

Paul will be cremated and his remains cared for by Norman’s Funeral Home, of Goochland, Virginia. A small reception will be held at Paul and Teresa’s home on Sunday, October 4 from 1:00- 3:00 pm. Friends and family are invited to come together, share memories and celebrate Paul’s life. A service honoring Paul will follow immediately, led by Rev. Kameron Wilds of Lorton, Va., and Mark Wilds of Goochland, Va.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the National Kidney Association or the American Heart Association (Virginia chapter).
