Nancy Marie Clowater

Nancy Marie (MacKay) Clowater left pain and sorrow behind on August 7, 2023. Marie was born in 1930 in Hayesville, New Brunswick, Canada. Had she not married Lionel Courtney “Sonny” Clowater, she might have remained there on the Miramichi River. Nevertheless, she moved with her sweetheart to New Jersey and then Virginia.

Hospitality was her specialty. At home, she even fed and lodged people Sonny found stranded along the road. At any potluck, her food was a good bet. Way beyond the call of duty, she cared for her son-in-law, Melvin Tibbs, as he was dying of cancer. Most of Marie’s siblings, her son Roger, and husband Sonny Clowater, went first. Her greatest challenge was facing old age without him.

Marie is survived by three siblings. Her remaining children and their spouses are Jayne Clowater, Ruth Clowater, Carlos Espinosa, William Clowater, and Ronafe Clowater. Grandchildren are Jesse Clowater, Martin Villa, Joseph Villa, Keith Raff, James Clowater, Alicia Clowater, and Candice Clowater. Five great grandchildren were the joy of her elder years.

Marie's sisters and brothers in Christ at Beaver Dam Baptist Church will have to manage without her for a while.

Sheridan Funeral Home, 4626 Cedar Lane Road, Kents Store, will be open on Thursday, August 10 to receive friends and guests from 6:00-8:00pm. At 11:00am on Friday, her life will be celebrated at Beaver Dam Baptist Church, 1749 Richmond Road, Troy, VA.

Many thanks to Hospice of the Piedmont for their thoughtful care.

Any donations to Beaver Dam Baptist endowment fund are appreciated. (Beaver Dam Baptist Church, 1749 Richmond Road, Troy, VA 22974).
