James Herndon Layne

James Herndon Layne, called “Jim”, passed away on June 6, 2026, in Philadelphia, PA at the age of 90. Jim grew up in Powhatan, Virginia, and graduated from Powhatan High School where he played all sports. He obtained an undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary, and a Masters in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech. Jim also served as a captain in the United States Army, and was later employed at Reynolds Metals International, travelling worldwide. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Goochland, VA. Jim is predeceased by his first wife, Ann Marshall, his parents James Herndon Layne, Sr. and Eunice Holland Layne of Reed Marsh, and many aunts and uncles in Goochland, VA. Jim is survived by his life partner Felicia Greene, his cousins Bryan Edward Layne and Anne Cridlin Snyder, and many younger cousins who will miss him. Services will be on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Norman Funeral Home, 2982 River Rd. W., Goochland, VA with a viewing at 9:00am, followed by a graveside service at 10:00am at Greenwood Memorial Gardens (on Rt. 6 near 288). All are welcome.
