James Dickerson Jr.

James B. Dickerson Jr., 91, of Goochland, passed away on October 5, 2025. Born on September 6, 1934, James lived a full and impactful life, cherished by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean, with whom he shared 68 wonderful years, and their son, Mike Dickerson. James is survived by his daughter, Ann Gales (Fray), and his son, Tim Dickerson (Gail); as well as six grandchildren: Michael (Amanda), Brandon (Michelle), Justin (Jessica), Dylon (Ashley), Cameron (Anna), Trey, and Lauren (Tommy). Additionally, he leaves behind six great-grandchildren: Rilyen, Adeline, Rhett, Noah, Logan, and Annie, along with a loving host of nieces and nephews. His extended family includes Bruce and Lisa Estes, and he was cared for by his dedicated caregivers, Crystal Weimer and Angie Henshaw.

James had a distinguished career, retiring in 1983 from the Virginia Department of Corrections in Powhatan after many years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Dewitt Clinton Masonic Lodge and enjoyed many passions, including hunting, gardening, and spending time outdoors. Above all, he was a devoted family man who will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by many.

James will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and the love he shared with those around him.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 8, between the hours of 2:00-3:00pm, with a funeral service to follow at 3:00pm, both to take place at Normans Funeral Chapel, 2982 River Road West, Goochland, Virginia.

In honor of his love for animals, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your local animal shelter.
