Iva Jean Cutright

We announce the passing of Iva Jean Cutright(Glen Allen, Virginia), who passed away on September 14, 2026 at the age of 89. Iva will be remembered as a dedicated mom and grandmother who enjoyed life. She helped everyone without being asked and never said no to anyone who needed help. And there was no quit in her.

She was predeceased by her father Wilson Stinnet and her mom Martha Mccarter Stinnet, her 8 siblings, Jimmy, Jack, Betty, Della, Ted, Betty Jo and June.

She was also predeceased by her loving husband of 51 plus years of marriage James Arthur Cutright and her daughter-in-law Debbie Hemsworth Cutright(Wayne Cutright).

She is survived by her four sons, Wayne, David(Pam) , Robert( Angela) and Stephen; her seven grandchildren Ryan, Jennifer(J.T), Erin( Art), Angie(Toney), Rebecca, Parker, and Neil (Nicole); six great grandchildren, and brother Harold Dewey Stinnett.

Iva Jean and James Arthur moved from Cartersville, Virginia in 1962 and moved to what is referred to as Old Glen with their two sons, Wayne and David and two more to follow. Iva Jean worked as a seamstress at Freeman Marx downtown Richmond for many years. Bill Chisom use to drive Iva Jean, Granny Maxwell and Ms. Sophie to work. James Arthur worked at the Cement plant as a carpenter. They built their family and home in Glen Allen.

Iva Jean took great pleasure watching her four boys growing up and playing ball as she called it She loved going to the softball games and other sports her sons played. She was at a ball field four nights a week and most weekends and enjoyed the company of all the mothers. Iva jean would come home from work and see a bunch of kids playing in the yard. She would feed them all. She loved to cook and see all the kids happy. Her's and everyone elses child in the neighborhood. And she loved baseball. The Big Red machine with Johnny Bend and Pete Rose were her boys. As the reds faded and TBS began showing Atlanta games she became a big fan of Smolties as she called him and Chipper Jones. She would cheer and yell like she was at the game. And she knew the game, She could have coached MLB and enjoyed watching her sons coach her grandkids, She could have easily been the third base coach. She continued going to all her grandkids sporting events as well and now that generation has carried her spirit.

Iva Jean had a special zeal for life. She along with James were the hardest workers and taught their kids to be as well. What nobody knew was Iva Jean had a massive hole in heart at birth. She should not have survived past twenty much less have four kids. This was discovered at age 78. The doctor called it a miracle. Iva Jean called it faith. Dr. Gerth at MCV plugged the whole with a stent. It had never been done in the U.S. Her faith never faltered even after she began with dementia. She simply would not quit. She survived 11 plus years with dementia and the heart issue. The survival rate average is six years. She simply had the zeal and tenacity for life. She is now at peace with James Arthur, her parents and siblings. In particular her brother Jimmy who died at 19 in 1965 during action in the Vietnam War. Iva would have flashbacks of his life and passing as her dementia grew.

On September 14, 2026 her faith was rewarded as she entered heaven and at 6:08 p.m. she get her long overdue wings. If you listened you would have heard the bell ring.
