On February 27, 2026, our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather, Horace F. Pace Jr., age 86, gained his wings. He was born on July 13,1939 in Charlottesville, VA to the late Horace F. and Fannie T. Pace.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Gregory F. Pace, son-in-law Cecil Kirby and a grandson Greg F. Pace Jr. (JR). He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lucille S. Pace, his daughters Janet Kirby and Kim Saylor of Troy; his sisters Brenda Emery (John) of Palmyra and Peggy Douglas of Crozet; his brother-in-law, Ray Shipp (Frances) of Crozet; his sisters-in-law, Elden Bourne of Charlottesville and Shirley Shipp of Troy; his daughter-in-law, Peggy Pace of Louisa; his grandchildren: Doug Sprouse, Amber Leer (Josh), Bryan Ashley (Natalie) and Kayla Pace; his great-grandchildren: Kristina Sprouse, Christopher (C.W.) Sprouse, Lawson Clark, Audri Leer, Caiden Leer, Sophia Leer, Hollice Harris, Emerson Ashley, Amelia Ashley, Andre Anderson and Emma Pace; he is also survived by his niece, Lori Ann Kirby (Ronald), cousins and several lifelong friends, Barbara & Kathy Campbell, Barbara Hepler, Virginia and Karl Sprouse.
He worked at Dettor, Edwards and Morris in Ivy for 25 years. He also worked at Food Lion on Fifth Street in Charlottesville for a brief period. He loved his family. He enjoyed going to the Charlottesville Moose Lodge, VFW, watching and attending Nascar races and listening to Bluegrass music.
The family would like to thank Dr. Eki, Heather, Angela, Paula, and all the wonderful staff on Unit 1 of the Laurels for the care they provided for our dad.
Visitation will be from 11:00am-12:00pm on March 6, 2026, at Zion United Methodist Church 1674 Zion Road, Troy, VA. Service will immediately follow at Zion United Methodist Church 1674 Zion Road, Troy, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be sent to: Patient Memorial Fund c/o The Laurels 490 Hillsdale Dr. Charlottesville, VA 22902 or Hospice of the Piedmont 675 Peter Jefferson Pkwy. Ste 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911. The family invites family and friends to join them in a meal immediately after services in social hall of Zion United Methodist Church.
