On Tuesday, December 8, 2020 , Rev. John James Hill, one of the greatest examples of a Christian man, went to H eaven to be with his Lord and Savior. He is now reunited with his wife , Ruth, who proceeded him to glory in 2011. He was born March 29, 1922, in Goochland , Virginia, to Joseph Hill and Paula Schultz. John and Ruth were married and began their life of adventure together on April 2, 1942. John was a man of num erous talents and abilities that spread from working at Rich mond Steel Company, to owning and operating a full service Mobile garage , to then becoming a minister of the Gospel. He is survived by his three sons and their wives, J ohn and Carroll, Dale and Linda, and Randy and Bonnie. He was also blessed with 7 grandch ild ren and 15 great grandchildren. John was the oldest of 9 brother and sisters.
For over 98 years, he impacted the lives of people where ever he went. He was known by most in the ministry as “Brother Hill”. In 1961, he was ordained as a minister from the East ern Virginia Conference, now known as Redemption Ministries of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. He pastored churches in Gordonsville, Orange, Chesapeake and Wakefield , Virginia. He was a true spiritual father to each of his church members. Re v. Hill was not only known for his preaching abilities and pastoral skills , but also his building ingenuity. He built an d assisted in the construction of many church sanctuaries, parsonages and ministry buildings throughout Virginia. He was also an effecti ve evangelist throughout many southern states. Over 25 ministers began their spiritual journey being converted to Christ in one of Rev. Hill’s anointed services.
J.J. Hill was a man of God, a true hero of the faith "of whom the world was not worthy.” He w as a true Christian soldier; a man of impeccable character and integrity. His legacy and ministry will be remembered, honored and cherished for many years to come.
A visitation will be held at the Norman Funeral Chapel 2982 River Road West , Gooch land, VA 23063, on Friday, December 11, 2020 from 6-8pm . A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, 12609 Patterson Ave nue , Richmond, VA 23238 on Saturday , December 12, 2020 at 11am . Social dista ncing w ill take place at each of these times.
