Heinz Ehmer

Heinz Ehmer, age 93, passed on July 1, 2023, after a brave battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Born and raised in Germany as the son of a baker, Heinz came to the United States as a young man and settled in Rochester, New York, where he owned several businesses and raised his family.  He later relocated to the Hidden Hills community in Jacksonville, Florida, where he enjoyed a tranquil retirement reading, walking, and playing Bridge at the local Senior Center.  He was known as a successful entrepreneur and enjoyed investing and monitoring the stock market long after his retirement.   He was a simple man, not extravagant, never striving to “keep up with Joneses,” but lived contentedly and happily.

While a quiet man, Heinz facilitated opportunities for his family to gather.  Even when his own children were grown, he valued time with them and their children. He provided family beach reunions in Ocean City, Maryland for decades, driving for hours from Florida to meet them there, and creating memories that last until this day. He didn’t need to be the center of attention; rather, he found simple pleasure in watching his family play together.

Heinz is predeceased by his brother Kurt, sister Doris, and his stepson David Mady.  He leaves behind his loving wife, Olivia, his children Douglas (Lori) Ehmer and Sandra (Donald) Patrick, his stepchildren Donald (Betty) Fellows, Debra Mady, Linda (John) Kirshner, and Laura Mady, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Please join us in celebrating his life on July 22 at 11:00.  The service will be held at Highlands Presbyterian Church, 10900 McCormick Road, Jacksonville, Florida, and will be officiated by Donald Fellows.  Refreshments will follow the service.

In Liew of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity (see habitat.org).
