Evelyn Maxine Simmons June 9, 1933 – August 14, 2026, Goochland, VA, formerly of Warrenton, VA
Evelyn Maxine Simmons passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026. Born to Dudley Owen Prince and Eva Prince, she was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and friend.
Evelyn was united in life with her beloved husband, Howard Simmons, who preceded her in death. She cherished her sister, Gloria Jeanette Respress, and lovingly remembered her dogs Mollie, Mason, and Lucy.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Dawn Dotson, her son-in-law, Jayfred Dotson, and her dear brother-in-law, Raye Repress. Evelyn's faithful companion, Lady, her cherished dog, was her constant lap warmer.
Evelyn worked in administration at AT&T before she dedicated herself to raising her daughter. She later enjoyed a fulfilling career as a substitute teacher at Taylor Junior High and Fauquier High School until her husband's retirement.
Her volunteer spirit shone through her involvement with the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Warrenton Lions Club, and ministries at Warrenton Baptist Church and Gum Spring United Methodist Church. Her hands tended a vibrant vegetable garden, sharing its bounty with neighbors and church communities.
Her life was marked by her devotion to family, especially caring for her daughter and later her mother, who lived with her until 2010. Evelyn and Howard enjoyed dining out and spent joyous evenings with friends playing card games. Her faith was her guide, and she was a regular presence at church activities.
In Evelyn's memory, contributions can be made to Goochland Pet Lover’s, P.O. Box 27, Oilville, VA 23129, in lieu of flowers.
