Debra Horniak

Debra Ann Horniak, 68 of Louisa, VA, beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Daughter, Sister and friend went home to the Lord unexpectedly at home on September 18th, 2024. The oldest of six, Deb was born on September 24, 1955, in Meriden, CT to Charles and Joanne (Lepack) Slie.

Deb is survived by her husband of fifty one years, John Horniak, her son Jason Horniak (Carla) and their three daughters Brooke, Autumn and Jacey, her daughter Laura Horniak (Josh) and their two children Kelsea and Kaiden, her mother Joanne Slie, sisters Lucille Slie, Donna Wilson (Jack), Susan Sarno (Joe), Charles Slie (Theresa), Lester Slie (Heather), as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and close friends. She was preceded in death by her father Charles Slie.

Deb attended school in Wallingford, CT and was a 1973 graduate of Mark T Sheehan High School. After graduation Deb and John were married on August 25, 1973.

In 1980 Deb, John and one year old Jason moved to VT where she worked for Upper Valley Press, Equity Publishing. Laura arrived in 1985 to complete the family. In 1995 a work transfer for Deb brought Deb and John to Lousia, VA where she worked for The Michie Company and later Cable Forms.

Deb’s greatest love in life was her family. She will fondly be remembered as the one who brought us all together whenever she possibly could. She enjoyed shopping and was the best at bringing gifts to all her loved ones. Deb was an amazing cook and took pride in her many family recipes that she has worked so hard to pass on to anyone who was willing to learn. Especially to “pinch” the pierogies! The thought of a trip to the ocean or the casino to try her luck brought her bursts of energy and the biggest of smiles to her face. She was a loyal best friend who remained in close contact with her friends, despite the many miles between.

A celebration of Debra’s life will be held for family and friends on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 4-8pm at Franco American Club, 95 Liberty St., Meriden, CT 06450.

Revelation 21:4 God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain.
