Known affectionately as “Nuck,” Charlie was a deeply loved and familiar presence throughout Goochland. For many years, he ran Dameron’s, where he did far more than operate a store — he built friendships, shared stories, and served his community with pride. When he wasn’t behind the counter, you could find him on a ball field, where he was a well-known and respected figure in the softball community. A talented player, Charlie was inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame in Richmond, Virginia, an honor that reflected not only his athletic ability but his deep dedication to the sport. He also ran and organized softball tournaments, bringing people together through competition, camaraderie, and his unmistakable enthusiasm. After hanging up his cleats, his greatest joy came from watching his granddaughter play, traveling up and down the East Coast to cheer her on, never missing a chance to support her from the stands.
Beyond the game, Charlie was a devoted bird hunter who cherished time in the field with his bird dogs, finding peace and joy in those moments. He also had a deep love for football, especially Virginia Tech, but loved to watch a sport no matter what it was. He was a member of the Goochland Chamber of Commerce and served on the Goochland Planning Commission.
Charlie and his wife, Jane, shared 38 years of marriage and a deep love for antiquing and traveling together to estate sales, where they delighted in the simple joy of the hunt, good conversation, and time spent side by side. Known lovingly as Papa, Charlie—also known as Charles Davis—cherished every moment with his family. Above all else, he was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather.
Charles will be remembered for his generosity, his passion for life, his tireless work ethic, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness and friendship. His legacy lives on in the many lives he impacted, both on and off the field, and through the family who loved him deeply.
Services will be held on Friday, February 6, at 11:00 a.m. at Goochland Baptist Church, with a reception immediately following.
