Cecil Lee (Buster) Kirby, age 83, of Troy, Virginia, passed away on February 10, 2026. He was born on December 30, 1942, to the late Coleman Carrelton and Effie Haislip Kirby.
Cecil is survived by his beloved wife, Janet Pace Kirby. He leaves behind a daughter, Tamara Kirby Miller, and her husband, George, of Timberville, Virginia. Also mourning his loss are his sister, Carol Baber, and her husband, Ronnie, of Palmyra, along with his stepsons Doug Sprouse of Charlottesville and Shawn McMullen and his wife, Laura, of Moyock, North Carolina. His step-grandchildren, Christopher and Kristina Sprouse, as well as his father and mother-in-law, Horace and Lucille Pace, and sister-in-law, Kim Saylor, also cherish his memory. Cecil was also a cherished uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Carrelton Kirby and James Henry Kirby, Sr., brother-in-law Greg Pace, nephew James Henry Kirby, Jr., and niece Teresa Jordan.
Cecil was a dedicated member of The Loyal Order of Moose and retired from Allied Concrete in 2007. He had a great passion for vacationing in the Outer Banks, fishing, and bringing together family and friends. A fan of NASCAR, he enjoyed attending races and was known for his friendly disposition and ability to connect with everyone he met.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Tuesday, February 17, from 6:00 to 7:30pm at Sheridan Funeral Home, 4626 Cedar Lane Road, Kents Store, Virginia. A memorial service will be held the following morning at 11:00 AM in the Sheridan Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Reverend Glen Turner.
Cecil Lee Kirby will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and the joy he brought into the lives of those around him. The family would like to extend many heartfelt thanks to Hospice of the Piedmont for the thoughtful care received.
