Carolyn Bess

Carolyn Bess, aged 83, of Palmyra, Virginia, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2025. Born on January 31, 1942, Carolyn was the cherished daughter of Paul Waren Dennis and Nellie Gray Gipson.

She is survived by her devoted sons Thomas Yancey, and his wife Phyllis, Dennis Yancey, Stacy Bess and wife Rachel; her daughter Michelle Clifton; her brother, TC Hall and his wife Janet; her sister Ann H. Powell. Carolyn leaves behind to cherish her memories 8 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Bess, her beloved parents Alton M Hall Sr. and wife Nellie Gray, her brothers Alton M Hall Jr., Albert Hall, Paul W. Dennis Jr. and two Grandchildren, Ryan Yancey and Jessica Bess.

Throughout her career, Carolyn worked as an office manager for an optometrist, where she was known for her dedication and compassion. Her life was characterized by her roles as a devoted mother and grandmother, and she took great pride in her family and home.

Carolyn enjoyed spending her days shopping, talking with her longtime friends and sister over the phone, eating at McDonalds and of course she loved E.W. Thomas fried chicken.

A visitation to honor her memory will be held on Friday, December 12, from 6:00 PM to 8:00pm and a funeral service following on Saturday, December 13, at 2:00pm, both services will take place at Sheridan Funeral Home, 4626 Cedar Lane Road, Kents Store. 

Carolyn Bess will be remembered for her warmth, love, and the joyful impact she had on those around her.
