Brenda Thurston Utterback

Brenda Thurston Utterback, 65, of Troy, Virginia passed away on August 12, 2026.

Brenda is survived by her son Christopher Moore; her grandchildren Christopher Moore Jr., Dillon Moore; her stepfather John Millway; her sister Virginia “Gin” Proffitt, Lisa Patterson; her brothers David DuVall, Elvis DuVall, Jimmy DuVall; her stepsisters Donna Millway, Sue Bywaters; her half siblings Herbert Thurston Jr., Patricia Thurston, Jennifer Thurston, as well as many friends who have touched her life along the way.

Brenda is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Annette Moore; her mother Hazel M. Millway; her father Herbert Thurston and her brother Ernest “Buddy” DuVall.

Brenda was a self-made woman who was never afraid of hard work. She was a jack of all trades, plumbing, sheet rock, roofing and anything to do with building repairs.

Brenda enjoyed fishing, riding horses, and riding around in her white Ford Ranger. Brenda loved her Boxers with all her heart, Possum Rosco and Tank.

Brenda was a giving person; she would step in and try to help anyone that was in need.

Throughout her long battle with cancer, she always had a positive attitude and kept her sense of humor.

Rest in peace, the pain is over.

A graveside service will be held 11:00am Saturday, August 22nd, 2026, at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, 4768 Shannon Hill Road, Columbia, Virginia.
