Brenda Parrish Browning, 84, of Palmyra, VA passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, with her loving husband by her side. She was born July 10, 1941, in Charlottesville, VA to Virginia Conis Parrish and James Wendell Parrish. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Boyd Wendell Parrish.
Brenda is survived by her husband Wallace Sneed Browning, her children Diana Browning Michaels (Larry) and Wallace Stephen Browning (Susan), her grandchildren Elizabeth Michaels, William Browning and Rebecca Michaels, and an extended family of nieces, nephews and many cousins.
Brenda lived in Fluvanna County her entire life, surrounded by a large extended family. She graduated from Fluvanna County High School in 1959. She met the love of her life, Wallace, at a young age when his family moved in across the street. Brenda and Wallace grew up together and were married on September 4, 1960. They recently celebrated 65 years of married life together.
Brenda enjoyed life as a young bride and homemaker raising her two children. As the children grew older, she went to work as a teller at Jefferson National Bank in Palmyra and then began her career working for Fluvanna County. She worked for the County School Board for a few years and then moved to the County Administrator’s office where she remained until retirement and managed the county payroll among many other duties.
Brenda loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, boating, camping and gardening. She and Wallace kept a large vegetable garden for many years and enjoyed fresh produce every summer. Brenda was an excellent cook and baker and collected cookbooks as a hobby. She cherished her family and hosted many family gatherings and holiday meals over the years. No one ever left hungry! Her macaroni salad, pound cake, fried chicken and sweet tea were among many family favorites.
Brenda was a lifelong member of Cunningham United Methodist Church and served in many roles, including church Treasurer and adult Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and volunteered for many church activities, including helping with Vacation Bible School and church yard sales. She could always be counted on to provide delicious cakes, pies and other dishes for church events.
She leaves a hole in our hearts and will be deeply missed.
Funeral services are under the direction of Sheridan Funeral Home of Kents Store and will be held at 11:00am Friday, September 19th at Cunningham United Methodist Church, 3398 Thomas Jefferson Pkwy, Palmyra, VA. Brenda will be laid to rest in the church cemetery, followed by a reception in the church social hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Cunningham United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
