Bernice Parrish Perkins

PERKINS, Bernice Parrish, 93, of Gum Spring, VA, departed this life Thursday, May 30, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lynwood Sr., her three deeply adored children, Brenda, Lynwood Jr. and Michael, and her granddaughter, Brooke. She is survived by her devoted grandchildren; Daniel, Sarah, Nicole, Adam, Jami, and Connor; and 12 great grandchildren, 6 sisters and 1 brother.

 Bernice could be found playing card games, putting together jigsaw puzzles, or sewing anything with yo yos. She was the first to hop in the car for a ride across many states, or just up the road to go shopping. Bernice always had a snack, a drink or local news to share. She never met a stranger and pinched her pennies ever so tightly. She was a Banker for many years, after all. Whatever was hers, was yours.

 All anyone can hope for is to have a life lived as fully and completely as hers. Bernice loved her family with the deepest part of her soul and would go to the ends of the Earth to show them. She never boasted about lending a hand or any act of service; if it was the right thing to do- she would do it, always. She was so helpful that she would even buy her grandchildren Virginia state maps and highlight the routes from their homes to hers, in case they forgot. She would also send copies of the grandchildren’s Christmas program readings, so that there was no way they couldn’t perform. She was well known for saying “come see me”, “okie dokie”, and her last words “I love you, too”. 

 Though the center of our world has passed on, it gives everyone immense peace in knowing she is now rejoicing with family that she has missed for so long, and with the Lord she was so faithful to.

 Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, from 2 to 3 p.m. with her funeral immediately following at 3 p.m. at Forest Grove Christian Church, 3881 Hadensville Fife Road, Goochland, Va.
