James Alvin Barker

James Alvin Barker , 79, departed this life on August 15, 2021 in Louisa, VA . Alvin was B orn on March 18, 1942 , in Fluvanna C ounty , V A , to the late Claude and Virginia Davis Barker.  He was also preceded in death by a brother , Claude Edward Barker; brother in-laws , Edgar Williams , Stewart Morris and Roger Brill; and one sister , June Morris.  He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 55 years , Joyce Barker ; three children, Carl Barker (Irma) , Tina Harlow (Willie ) and Beth Jones (Stacy); Seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; seven step grandchildren ; five sisters , Jean Williams , Myrtle Purdum (Wayne) , Arlene Brill , Brenda Joseph (Wade) and Sheila Galihugh (Ken) ; t wo Brothers , Dallas Barker (Sherri) and Randy Barker (Kathy) ; one brother in-law , Junior Morris ; and a host of other family and friends.

Alvin was a truck driver for many years hauling mail, a utomobile parts and gasoline . He retired from Tiger Fuel Company. In his spare time, he enjoyed d oing small jobs with his tractor and backhoe.

He loved to fish and camp on the James River in Scottsville , VA .  He taught his children how to live the simple life and how to have fun outdoors.

Family will receive friends from 6 -8 pm on Wednesda y, August 18, 2021 at Sheridan Funeral Home in Kents Store , V A .

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Holly Memorial Gardens , 3251 Seminole Trail (Rt. 29) , Charlottesville , VA. Pastor David Flack will be officiating. Following the funeral service, the family would like to invite everyone to Macedonia Church, Louisa VA for a time of fellowship and memory sharing
